Session 25
We roll back up to the Redglimmer offices via backroads. Crimeny is singed, Shane is covered in sick, Pippinella is high as fuck and traumatized from ghost spiders and fire.
Griffin rolled a Nat 1 Stealth and brought the group stealth roll down to 13.4. We get stopped on our way back to the Redglimmer Offices by a couple of beat cops. Some of us are singed. We're all bloody. Jericho rolled a 29 Deception to trick the cops into believing him that we're going to a costume party. He namedrops some prominent people in Midshade and the cops believe him.
Pippinella rolls a 6 constitution and shriek-vomits all over her good friend Griffin. Serra rolls Medicine to see if there's anything she can do to help. Pip is suffering from high blood pressure, she's sweating, her body is acting like she has a fever but her temperature is normal. Her eyes are doing the weird dilation thing that Master Ambrosia's eyes did. Serra manages to bring her down a bit with a 21 medicine check, and Pip's eyes go back to normal.
We make it to the Redglimmer offices and head up to see Calico. Jericho asks for booze. She provides. She doesn't look angry, just bemused.
The drugs came in a glass bottle. In the bottle is a very, very fine powder that is almost silvery-looking. It looks like there are droplets of mercury condensation on the outside of the bottle, but they don't feel wet.
Calico offers us some rooms in the Redglimmer tower to rest and recover. Pippinella can't talk about her experience just yet.
Ant: Maybe we should call this campaign 50 Shades of Regret.
A number of the offices a few floors down have been converted into some nice suites. The suites are nicely stocked with food and drink and medical supplies.
Ryo: I can prestidigitate the cocaine away.
We put Pip to bed and Griffin sits next to her bed like a guilty puppy. Serra goes up to the roof to brood. Shane follows her. Serra is upset because she keeps fucking up. Shane gives her an awkward hug. She begins to cry. Shane somehow makes her feel better with a 22 Consolation roll.
While Pippinella is sleeping, she has some fucking surreal dreams. She's used to weird dreams as a divination wizard, but these are beyond the scope of her normal weird dreams. The spiders from the pixie stix haunt her. :(
Pippinella wakes up and summons Sekilos; she needs her emotional support toad. We are provided with breakfast. Jericho makes Pippinella a BLT and explains what happened last night after Pippinella took her trip.
Calico comes in. The Brockhoppers think the Proudsongs burned down their warehouse, not a third party, and now they're looking to start a war in the streets.
But wait, there's more bad news! Genie wants to see Jericho later. 8)
Calico gives Pippinella a hug, and asks about her trip. Pip thinks the spiders were trying to turn her soul into a spider-soul smoothie.
Once Calico leaves, we do the Speak With Dead thing with Acid Drow. Pippinella wants to do it seance style. Serra doesn't want to help with this. But Shane does! We clear some space in the living area and put the body down on the floor.
The corpse convulses and a pale blue light starts to emanate from her eyes. Then she sits up. Her eyes are glowing. She looks around at us and starts to curse at us in Undercommon, stands up, and starts to bolt to the door. Jericho rolls a 22 Dex save to punch her in the face. She rolled a 3 to save. Jericho clotheslines her. Then he ties her up. We have ten minutes to ask her five questions that she is compelled to answer, but she does not have to give a straight answer and she does not have to give a clear answer.
Crimeny: "Who is your immediate superior within the Brockhopper clan?"
Acid Drow: "There are none in the Brockhopper clan that are superior to us."
Pippinella: "Who is your point of contact with the Brockhopper family?"
Acid Drow: "We are in contact with many of the Brockhopper clan, but there's only one we show interest in."
Pippinella: What is the name of the person or people who are supplying you with the drug pixie sticks?"
Acid Drow: (said with a prideful look) House Amastacia
Pippinella: "What does your house gain by consorting with the Brockhopper clan?"
Acid Drow: (Seems particularly interested in Pip now that Pip is engaging her. She smiles sweetly at Pippinella. There's a nefarious interest. Predatory, saccharine sweet.) "Your kind don't understand the power that you have at your disposal."
Pippinella: "What is the name of the person you are interested in, in the Brockhopper clan, who is related to the trade of the drug known as Pixie Stix."
Acid Drow: The name of the one we are interested in is the future heir to the Brockhopper clan, the lone daughter to Taknuss Brockhopper, Sadie. She has great power and great potential, and she won't squander it like you, little one.
(Basically we learn that there's more to this than a couple of drow working with some rowdy-ass gnomes)
Then Acid Drow dies. Again.
As Serra wanders the streets of Midshade, she notices a lot of tension in the air. There aren't as many people out and about as yesterday. She notices some guys from the Redglimmer clan, and hears a fight break out. She decides to be nosy and peek around the corner.
She sees a number of gnomes just laid out in the street - they're pretty fucked up. There's one gnome standing over them; he's wearing a mask over his face. Attached to the mask are two small cylinders - it looks like a gas mask. He's standing over four gnomes that are fucked up at his feet. He looks up and sees Serra. He breaks one of the cylinders and bullrushes Serra. She flies away. He tries to jump up after her - he has a pretty ridiculous standing leap but misses. Then he grabs a trash can lid and whiffs it at Serra with a nat 20. It smacks into her with enough force to do 4 damage, and she loses some altitude. He attempts another running jump. Weirdly, he seems to be caught in midair, and is yanked down to the ground by…
A stoney-faced gnome in a white leisure suit. He doesn't want to fight, but the Bath Salts gnome wants to fight, so he picks up a bike and smashes Bath Salts.
With Bath Salts down, Stoney-Face looks up at Serra and asks if she's okay.
"It's the Serpent King!"
He helps the four gnomes up, though he has to pick up two of them.
He's Firo Tigernewt.
Serra rolls to loot Investigate Bath Salts the gnome. Inside the mask are the crushed remains of probably Pixie Sticks.
On his lapel is a pin - it's a round emblem with an hourglass. The hourglass makes up the body of a spider. Serra takes the mask and the pin, but leaves his cash. She makes her way back to the Redglimmer house and tells the rest of the crew about Bath Salts and Firo.
Pip investigates the drow corpse with a 28 - she has the same emblem embroidered into her cloak. She does have some gems, which Crimeny takes. She has two scrolls written in Undercommon. We get the feeling she wasn't super important. We can infer that the spider emblem belongs to House Amastacia.
We spend the day laying low waiting for Metamorphosis to open. Jericho goes by himself to talk to Genie and won't let Griffin come with him. 8(
Iphigenia makes Jericho wait in her office for 10 minutes before coming in, pouring two shots, and drinking them both herself. They chat a bit, then we smash cut back to the Redglimmer suites.
Griffin opens the door to an urgent knocking, and Calico pushes into the room.
Something attacked Metamorphosis. The place is a wreck. Genie is apparently beside herself. Jericho is nowhere to be seen. We go!
The outside of Metamorphosis is still standing - barely. The inside is like a tornado tore through this place. There's a bunch of people standing around Genie - she's sobbing, she looks like she just emerged from Ground Zero, she's taken a beating, her dress is torn.
Griffin and Pippinella are like, "Oh man, something really bad must have happened!" Shane and Crimeny are like, "Cry me a river with these fucking crocodile tears you fucking bitch."
Pippinella attempts to use the Message Cantrip to see if she can contact Jericho. The range is 120 feet. There is no response.
Crimeny goes to talk to Genie while Pip and Griffin investigate the rubble. There's a lot of melted metal, a lot of things have been burned. It looks like a supersized Fireball spell went off. Nellie finds some white feathers that are larger than the ones Jericho and Genie possess.
Crimeny asks Genie, "Where's Jericho?" Genie says he left before the attack. Crimeny's insight gives him the feeling that there's more to it than that, but her statement that he left is not untrue.
There was an unearthly wail right before everything went to hell. It sounded like a horn at low tide.
Shane tells her she's full of bullshit. Based on the fact that she's got bouncers and staff and eyes and ears everywhere, she's too well-connected to not know what just happened. Be that as it may, she is still maddeningly unhelpful.
Shane sees a massive plume of flame 10-15 blocks down the street. After the flame erupts we hear the horn at low tide.
